About Me

TROY MULLINS is a Los Angeles Native. She graduated Cornell University, with a B.A. in China Asia Pacific Studies and International Relations. She has her own academic tutoring and homeschooling business and can speak Mandarin Chinese, as well as American Sign Language, and Spanish. Troy has traveled to China five times; she spent her senior year studying at Beijing's prestigious Peking University, campaigned with “Americans Abroad For Obama” and returned after college to work as a production assistant on Jackie Chan’s film, The Forbidden Kingdom.” Since graduating, she has been pursuing a professional golf career, with the intent on making a name for herself.

Troy discovered her untapped abilities in golf after graduating college.  As a seasoned athlete, and a former member of Cornell University Women’s Track & Field team as a heptathlete, Troy followed in her father, Billy Mullins’, footsteps. (Holding the world record in ’78, ’80 for the 400m and 400m-relay, he was set to step out onto the World’s Stage in 1980 on the U.S. Olympic team, until the boycott of the Moscow Olympics.)  She incorporated fundamentals learned from shotput and sprinting into her swing style. It was thus no surprise with only a few pointers; onlookers were impressed by her effortless power.  Her Private Track coach, Chuck DeBus said, “with her lower body strength and speed, Golf is the perfect sport for Troy.”

Early on she learned the basics from several golf instructors but credits the development of her pure swing to intuition.  Her swing style has been compared to that of her professional male counterparts. With an average swing speed of 117mph (ranking in the PGA top 50), she routinely fires her driver between 320-350 yds.  She’s a perennial in the World Long Drive Women’s Championship. She is one of only four women to break the 400-yard-drivemark, breaking a World Record at 402yds and also won the 2017 Long Drive Championship notching 398yds at the Mile High Showdown in Denver.  Following the win, Troy was named “LA’s Hometown Hero” by NBC-LA Sports.

Nicknamed the ‘Trojan Goddess’ her rise to fame has been meteoric.  Troy was featured concurrently in three Golf publications; FORE Magazine (5 pages), Golf Digest (2) Articles, Golf Magazine (7 pages) on newsstands in the month of August.  Golf Magazine said “her potential star power is undeniable.” She was also one of several extraordinary women to receive a ‘Woman of Xcellence’ Award presented by BMW’s Diversity Initiative in August this year. After attending the Espy Awards in July, Troy made the “Espy Award’s class of 2018 superlatives” and named as the “Athlete most likely to be the next Serena Williams of her sport” by RollingOut Magazine; and “If you don’t know Troy Mullins, be sure to do some research on this woman who could be the next megastar in golf.” The Golf Channel touted Troy as ‘The Longest Hitting Woman On The Planet’ and tweeted “Her swing is as pretty as it gets” in her first of several in-studio interviews and swing demonstrations; She returned for both Women Crushing Wednesday and Wellness Week with fitness tips.

Troy has also been a live, in-studio guest or featured in the following TV Sports reports, or magazines online, print and radio; NBC Sports LA; ESPN; The Golf Channel; The Morning Drive Show; Golf Channel:China (conducted entirely in Mandarin Chinese); ESPNW The Buzz; PGA Magazine; Pro Golf Now; Golf News Net.; The Undefeated; Golf Punk; SB Nation; AOL; USA Today; Rolling Out Mag and ESPN Radio.

Troy’s power moves can be seen in a myriad of Golf analysis videos, World Long Drive Promos, and in a commercial with Jordan Speith for AT&T.  She has appeared in two episodes of ‘Golfeando’ for the We are MiTu Channel, airing on the official page of the PGA Tour; has co-hosted three episodes of ‘Top Golf Tour’ 2018 a Golf Competition show; and is featured in ‘A Day In The Life of Troy Mullins’ commercial spot for NBC Sports. (Release date TBD)

One of the many highlights of her career thus far has been meeting her golf idol, Tiger Woods. Troy was one of the celebrities playing in The Genesis Open Pro-AM this year sponsored by The Tiger Woods Foundation.  It made national news coverage when Troy went undercover in prosthetics as a 90-yr-old Granny to prank unsuspecting junior golfers on Youth Day at The Genesis Open garnering 2.3 mil views on Skratch TV. Troy was also one of the celebrity golfers in Tiger Woods #PlayWithAPurpose “Tiger Jam” this year in Las Vegas.  On the course that day, Tiger challenged Troy to a Long Drive Contest for fun, again her video immediately went viral and has amassed well over 260K+ views to date online.

With a handicap of 1, Troy’s ultimate goal is to make the LPGA Tour and she is perfecting her game to that end.  She is an excellent ambassador for Women’s Golf. PING Golf president John K. Solheim said “Troy is such an inspiration with her athleticism, her intelligence and her mission to inspire more women and girls to take up the game.” Troy hopes to inspire young& old and more women of color to the sport.  She also wants to either start a charity or work with one that integrates her passion for sports and education.  Troy still has plans to attend law school in the future and perhaps be an ambassador to China which was the original plan in college.
